The Flourishing Book Club: Guided Healing Through Literature

$33.00

a therapist-led support group where Black and Brown participants explore childhood trauma and family relationships through Drama Free.

The Flourishing Book Club is a therapist-led, hybrid support group designed for Black and Brown individuals to explore childhood trauma, family relationships, and personal growth through literature. Centered around Drama Free by Nedra Glover Tawwab, this 6-week group offers a structured, reflective, and community-centered space where reading becomes a tool for healing, insight, and transformation.

This guided healing group blends literature with therapeutic practices, creating a safe environment to process personal experiences while connecting them to real-life relationships. Each session combines guided reading, reflective discussion, somatic and mindfulness exercises, and community connection, providing participants with both emotional and embodied support. By exploring the book in small sections and reflecting collectively, participants can gain clarity about relational patterns, identify triggers from childhood experiences, and practice strategies for setting healthy boundaries.

The group is structured to alternate between in-person sessions (the first and fourth Saturday of the month) and virtual sessions (biweekly “reading & tea meet-ups”), ensuring accessibility for those who cannot attend in person. In-person sessions focus on shared reading, somatic awareness, and group reflection, while virtual sessions allow participants to engage in guided discussions, integration of insights, and supportive processing from the comfort of home.

What to Expect:

  • Explore Drama Free in guided sections to reflect on family dynamics, childhood trauma, and personal growth.

  • Participate in therapist-led discussions with reflective prompts and practical strategies for navigating complex relationships.

  • Engage in somatic practices and mindfulness exercises to support regulation, grounding, and emotional awareness.

  • Connect with a community of Black and Brown individuals in a culturally responsive, safe, and supportive environment.

  • Integrate insights into your daily life and practice new relational skills in real-world contexts.

  • Participate in a final session to reflect on growth, share experiences, and vote on the next book by Black and Brown authors, continuing the journey of healing together.

The Flourishing Book Club is not a traditional book club, it is a guided therapeutic experience where literature serves as a bridge to self-awareness, community support, and emotional resilience. Whether you are seeking clarity in family relationships, tools for boundary-setting, or a supportive space to process your experiences, this group offers both structure and flexibility to meet participants where they are.
